RIO DE JANEIRO STATE COURT IMPLEMENTS NEW MODEL FOR DISTRIBUTION OF CIVIL LAWSUITS IN THE CAPITAL

The Rio de Janeiro State Court (TJRJ), together with the Office of the Disciplinary Board, published Joint Executive Act No. 6/2025, which changes the rules for the distribution of cases in Civil and Occupational Accident jurisdictions in the Capital District.

The measure was adopted due to an imbalance in the number of cases assigned to civil courts. To correct this distortion, the act establishes that, as of June 2, 2025, case distribution will be conducted electronically and in a balanced manner, through a lottery system among all Civil Courts of the Central District and the Regional Districts of Bangu, Barra da Tijuca, Campo Grande, Ilha do Governador, Jacarepaguá, Leopoldina, Madureira, Méier, Pavuna, and Santa Cruz.

In addition to balancing caseloads, the rule also introduces technological improvements in judicial management. Hearings may now be held virtually, with scheduling carried out through the Microsoft Bookings platform, increasing efficiency and convenience in procedural workflow.

With these changes, the court reinforces its commitment to modernizing its service, advancing digital transformation, and ensuring more efficient and balanced case management, in line with best practices adopted by Brazilian courts.
